Texas Governor Rick Perry Issues Marina Day Proclamation

 

MAY 25, 2007 - Governor Rick Perry issued a proclamation to The Marina Association of Texas (MAT) that August 11, 2007, is "Marina Day" in Texas. Governor Perry stated, "I encourage all Texans to recognize with appreciation the contributions that marinas and marina operators make to our great state. They continue to serve Texas with diligence and distinction."

 

MAT is a non-profit organization composed of marinas on the inland and coastal waters of Texas. The MAT was organized in 1973 with a mission to improve, protect, and advance the interest of the marina industry in Texas. It was initiated through the Sea Grant Program of Texas A&M University.

 

National Marina Day Recognized by US House of Representatives

 

MAY 15, 2007 - A proclamation was passed in the United States House of Representatives recognizing August 11, 2007, as "National Marina Day" across the country. "National Marina Day" is produced by the Association of Marina Industries (AMI) and the purpose of the annual event is to celebrate America's marinas.

 

House Resolution 343 was introduced by Representative Harold Rogers (R-KY). The resolution supports the goals of the National Marina Day and urges America's marinas to continue to serve as environmentally friendly gateways to boating.

 

Lake Whitney Marina Awarded 2004 "Marina of the Year"

 

OCTOBER 2004 - Lake Whitney Marina @ Juniper Cove was named 2004 "Marina of the Year" in the category of 150 Slips & Under at the 32nd Annual Marina Association of Texas Conference.

 

Lake Whitney Marina is a certified "Clean Texas Marina"

 

JULY 2003 - Lake Whitney Marina @ Juniper Cove was officially designated a “Clean Texas Marina” in recognition of its environmental stewardship. The Clean Marina program recognizes marinas for their efforts in environmental responsibility and permits boaters to identify those marinas promoting clean activities and following best management practices. This joint project of the Texas Sea Grant College Program, Marina Association of Texas, Texas General Land Office (GLO), and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) encourages marina operators and recreational boaters to protect coastal water quality by engaging in environmentally sound operating and maintenance procedures.

 

Lake Whitney Ranked As One of the Top Recreational Lakes

 

MAY 25, 2003 - The Dallas Morning News ranks Lake Whitney as one of the top recreational lakes in Texas.

 

Life Jacket Loaner Program for Kids

 

MAY 2003 - Boaters at Lake Whitney Marina may borrow an infant, child, or youth's life jacket at no charge. Life jackets are located in the ship's store and checked out on a first-come, first-serve basis.

 

The life jackets are available to boaters as a result of a Boat U.S. Foundation for Boating Safety & Clean Water grant that was awarded to the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 5-15 at Lake Whitney.
